Former Flash Comm Friday: Sarah Lack

This week on Former Flash Friday, we got to catch up with former Flash Comm intern, Sarah Lack.Sarah-Lack

Lack graduated from Kent State in 2012 with a degree in public relations and is now a marketing assistant at Notre Dame College and the communications coordinator for a local non-profit called Girls on the Run of Greater Summit.

The experience Lack gained at Flash Comm provided her with more than portfolio work, the experience also inspired her to work in higher education after graduation.

“The reason I ended up working in higher education is partly due to my time at Flash,” says Lack. “I loved writing and telling the stories of students, faculty and alumni, and I get to do the same thing at my current job.”

Lack initially joined the Flash Comm team in an effort to add to her portfolio before submitting her resume to internships. It turns out, Lack joined the team for the experience and stayed for the culture.

“I worked at Flash to gain some experience before applying for a summer internship. I stayed on for another semester because I loved my boss, shout out to Stef Moore, and wanted the opportunity to grow my professional portfolio and help manage other interns as Stef’s assistant.”

Lack encourages Flash Comm students to take advantage of their time in a great learning environment.

“Flash Comm is a supportive environment where you can really begin to hone your skills in a professional setting,” says Lack. “Take the time to get to know the UCM staff and learn from them. They are a great resource.”

*UPDATE: Since we spoke to her, Sarah Lack has begun working at Ohio University as a communications specialist

Flash Communications is a hands-on experience for students learning about the professional public relations industry. When these students graduate, they have the knowledge and skills that can carry them through a successful career. We’d like to recognize and applaud the success of our former Flash students every Friday with Former FlashComm Fridays.
